This volume of photographs, old, new and antique, traces the route followed by Lord Chelmsford during his abortive attempt to invade Zululand and destroy the army of King Cetshwayo kaMpande.
On his 14-day excursion from Helpmekaar he searched and attempted, without success, to locate the Zulus, they eventually found him; and found him wanting.
With the aid of 15 highly detailed original maps, 340 photographs and 44,000 words of text, the invasion story for the first time is laid out in stunning visual detail.
Frank Allewell lives with his family in Cape Town, South Africa. He served in the British Army in Europe and the Middle East before moving to South Africa and developing an interest in the Anglo-Zulu War.
His first visit to the battlefields was in 1969 and he has since revisited on a regular basis.
He is the author of an interactive app on the iSandlwana battlefield and has researched and collaborated on a number of publications for a variety of authors.
This is his second solo book and is intended to be the first in a tetralogy covering the three initial invading columns and the final second invasion.
