On the death of a woman in a London flat in 1971, it was found that she had been living under a false name. When her identity is revealed through the tenacity of a budding investigative journalist, mysteries are uncovered about her Danish wartime resistance activities, which include crossing paths with the Special Operations Executive and the Secret Intelligence Service.
However, a significant mystery remained: how could the woman have died in London in 1971 when the Danish believed she had perished in a Nazi prison in 1945? Furthermore, a delicate white china elephant, small enough to fit into a large matchbox, was found by a policeman in the woman’s flat. The policeman was later killed in a hit-and-run accident. Was the china elephant the key to another and larger secret? Could the policeman have been murdered, but by whom and why?
