Rob Dembrey

History has been a passion of Rob's from a young age and throughout school. On leaving school, he read Modern History at Manchester University in the early 1990s and has maintained this interest throughout the subsequent years. On becoming an 'Eyes On Hands On' volunteer for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission he set out to find out more about the lives of those who lost their lives in Kingston upon Thames, the place where he and his family have lived for the last 16 years.

Specifically, he set out to trace the lives of the 17 men on his road who died in the Great War. Where and how they became casualties; their lives before their enlistment, and the loved ones they left behind. It's the story of one road in the Great War, but it reflects the sacrifice of so many up and down the country.
